Some areas to receive heavy rainfall today

Kathmandu, Aug. 11: Heavy rainfall is likely in a few places of the hilly areas of Karnali Province and in the hilly and Tarai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces today.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, moderate rainfall is expected in some areas of Madhes Province, while one or two places in the Tarai belts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces may also receive moderate rain later today.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division said light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some mountainous areas. Most hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are also expected to receive moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.

The country is currently under the influence of the monsoon system. The monsoon low-pressure belt is positioned north of its average location in western Nepal and around its average position in the eastern part of the country.

Weather conditions remain mostly cloudy across Koshi and Lumbini provinces, while mountainous and hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are generally cloudy.

The Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces are partly cloudy.

Light to moderate rainfall is currently being recorded in some parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
