Korala Road Project Remains Government’s Top Priority, Says Minister Lamsal
Mustang, July 5: Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the strategically important Korala Road project, stating that it remains one of the country’s top infrastructure priorities.
During an inspection of the Kaligandaki Corridor (Beni–Jomsom–Korala) Road Project in Mustang on Saturday, Minister Lamsal assured that the project would not face delays due to budget constraints. He said funding has already been allocated for the Chhusang–Ghami road section, while the government is preparing to speed up asphalt paving on the Ghami–Korala stretch leading to the Nepal–China border.
Addressing a discussion at the project office, the Minister stressed the importance of completing the strategic north-south corridor that links Nepal with the Korala border point in China. He said the Ministry would coordinate with the concerned agencies to identify and resolve any obstacles delaying blacktopping work.
Lamsal noted that local governments have already extended the necessary support for road construction up to the Korala border, creating a favorable environment for the project’s timely completion.
He also directed that all remaining contracts related to roads, bridges, and other key infrastructure along the Korala section be awarded within the current fiscal year (2082/83 BS), enabling the completion of the Korala segment of the Kaligandaki Corridor without further delay.
The 202-kilometre Beni–Jomsom–Korala road, a national pride project launched in 2017, stretches from Kushma Municipality-1 in Parbat to the Korala border in Mustang. It forms part of the 435-kilometre Kaligandaki Corridor, a key trade and connectivity route linking India and China through Nepal.
Reiterating the ministry’s commitment, Minister Lamsal said every necessary effort would be made to ensure the project’s timely completion and enhance Nepal’s cross-border connectivity.
