Foreign Minister Khanal meets top leadership in Beijing to deepen Nepal-China strategic ties

June 16, Kathmandu: Foreign Affairs Minister Shisir Khanal held high-level meetings with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee Chairman Wang Huning, and Minister at the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) Liu Haixing in Beijing.

These highly positive discussions focused on broadening the longstanding friendship between the two nations through enhanced development cooperation, investment, tourism, political exchanges, and party-to-party relations.

CPPCC National Committee Chairman Wang Huning expressed a strong commitment to deepening the enduring ties and mutual cooperation between Nepal and China.

As the most substantial part of the visit, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal held formal bilateral talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During the comprehensive and cordial discussions, Foreign Minister Khanal reaffirmed Nepal’s firm commitment to the One China Principle, pledging that Nepali territory will not be allowed for any activities against China.

In return, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang warmly reiterated China’s full support for Nepal’s sovereignty, independence, and economic growth, while prioritising good governance.

The two delegations agreed to fast-track crucial cross-border infrastructure, connectivity, trade, energy, and border management projects. Following the successful meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting delegation.
