Language, literature and culture vital for national prosperity: Minister Timilsina

Kathmandu: Minister for Information and Communication Dr Bikram Timilsina has said that a nation’s prosperity cannot be complete without the protection and promotion of its language, literature and culture.

Addressing the ‘Madhupark Award-2026’ programme organised by the Gorkhapatra Corporation in Kathmandu, Minister Timilsina said art and literature are the foundation of a nation’s identity and stressed the need for the government to seriously consider measures to preserve literature.

The Minister said changing technology and social media have opened new avenues for literary expression and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to introducing policies for the long-term development of the literary sector.

He also stressed the need to strengthen public media and cultural institutions through institutional reforms and better management, adding that the government is committed to making the Gorkhapatra Corporation more effective, professional and competitive.

On the occasion, senior litterateur Yadav Kharel, storyteller Bhaupanthi and Dr Geeta Tripathi were honoured with the ‘Madhupark Award-2026’.
