PM Shah vows to resolve border issues through diplomatic channel

Kathmandu, May 31: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving border issues with India through diplomatic channels.

Responding to lawmakers’ queries in today’s House of Representatives meeting, the Prime Minister said the government would address outstanding issues through dialogue.

He noted that efforts were being made to resolve matters related to the Nepal–India border with the involvement of experts and historians, adding that Nepal could also engage with the British government on the issue.

According to the Prime Minister, the government has already sent an official diplomatic note to India regarding the use of Nepali territory in Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani. He said both sides have agreed to resolve the issue through talks involving historians, surveyors and experts familiar with the concerned areas.

He further stated that Nepal has discussed the matter not only with India and China but also with the United Kingdom, arguing that the issue dates back to the time after British India left the region and therefore requires broader historical consideration. He stressed that such matters should be resolved through sustained diplomatic efforts.

Earlier, CPN-UML lawmaker Padma Aryal had raised concerns over a trade route opened by India and China through Nepali territory, seeking the Prime Minister’s response.

In response to Nepali Congress lawmaker Arjun Narsing KC, the Prime Minister said the government would study and implement relevant investigation reports, including those of the National Human Rights Commission. He added that all reports submitted on various movements and incidents would be reviewed and necessary action taken.

The Prime Minister also said the government would consider most of the suggestions put forward by lawmakers.
