Chinese Embassy in Nepal rejects bribery allegations, calls them “rumors”

Kathmandu: The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has firmly denied recent social media allegations claiming that a Chinese national attempted to bribe Nepali journalists to publish negative reports about a Nepali politician, describing the claims as “rumors” and strongly condemning what it called deliberate attempts to damage China’s image.
Responding to a media query, the spokesperson of the Embassy said the allegations were “deeply shocking” and categorically rejected them. The statement emphasized that China has always adhered to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, including Nepal.
Reaffirming bilateral ties, the Embassy said China continues to support Nepal’s national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, as well as its political stability and socio-economic development.
The statement also urged Nepali authorities to conduct a “serious, in-depth and thorough investigation” into the allegations and to take legal action against those responsible, including any behind the reported claims.
“The Chinese side stands ready to strengthen law enforcement and security cooperation with the Nepali side to safeguard the shared interests of the two countries,” the spokesperson added.
The Embassy called for restraint and caution, urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information. “Let reason and wisdom put an end to rumors,” the statement said, expressing hope that Nepali citizens will distinguish between fact and misinformation and continue to support friendly China–Nepal relations.
