Ministry emphasizes politics-free education sector

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has advanced a drive to free the education sector from political meddling since Minister Sashmit Pokharel assumed office.

In addition to freeing schools and universities from politically affiliated student unions, Minister Pokharel has underscored a structural reform in this sector to foster a clean, academic atmosphere. Enhancement of quality education and the online issuance of no objection certificates (NOCs) have also been stressed.

In line with the 100-point reform agenda, the government made public after its commencement, the Ministry sorted out the issues in its area and forwarded activities accordingly. The schools are reminded of student enrollment, fee management and improvement in the academic calendar.

As per the government plan, the formation of ‘student council’ or ‘voice of students’ is being enforced soon. Kathmandu University has begun preparation for the formation of the student council.

The Ministry also insisted on ensuring exam results on time. An alternative evaluation system is being introduced to replace the writing exam for students up to Grade 5. Delivery-based governance of the education sector is prioritised.

The information system is being improved for an integrated scheme. For this, the network issue is resolved at GIDC. All local levels have been written by the federal ministry to ensure scholarships at institutional schools and submit reports accordingly.
