Deuba group files writ petition against EC decision in Supreme Court

Kathmandu: The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led faction of the Nepali Congress has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission’s recognition of the party’s new working committee elected at the special general convention.

The petition, registered today, claims Deuba’s committee is the legitimate body and asks the court to annul the EC’s decision, dissolve the Gagan Thapa-led committee, and halt or postpone House of Representatives election nominations.

The writ was submitted by leaders including acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka, Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Man Singh, and Min Bahadur Bishwakarma. The court has scheduled the petition’s presentation for Tuesday, as Monday is a public holiday.
