Minister Sinha Rules Out Monopoly for Nepal Mountaineering Association
Kathmandu, Jan 12: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha has clarified that the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) will not be granted a monopoly.
Speaking at a meeting of the Committee for Legislation Management under the National Assembly at Singha Durbar on Monday, Minister Sinha stated that since NMA is registered under the Organization Registration Act-2034 BS like any other entity, granting it exclusive rights would not be justified.
He added that in the current federal context, it is inappropriate to provide legal privileges to a single organization. While acknowledging NMA’s significant contributions to mountaineering and tourism, Sinha emphasized the importance of recognizing the organization’s origins, noting that it was started by a small group of individuals and has grown over time.
“Many other organizations of a similar nature exist. Therefore, giving NMA a monopoly is out of the question,” the Minister said.
