President Paudel Calls for Human-Rights Friendly March 5 Elections
Kathmandu, Dec 10: President Ramchandra Paudel has stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure that the March 5 election is conducted in a manner that upholds human rights and strengthens the democratic system.
In a message issued on the occasion of the 77th Human Rights Day, President Paudel said Nepal and the international community are closely watching the political developments that followed the Gen Z movement. He urged all stakeholders — the government, political parties, civil society, youth groups and citizens — to play constructive roles during the election period.
The President noted that as countries worldwide focus on building just and equitable societies, Nepal must further enhance the implementation of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution. He highlighted that Nepal’s Constitution fully embraces the principles of freedom, equality and justice outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Recalling Nepal’s commitments as a signatory to various international human rights conventions, President Paudel expressed confidence that all three tiers of government, human rights institutions, media and civil society will contribute to safeguarding human rights and democratic values.
He added that the economic, social and cultural dimensions of human rights are essential for strengthening individual freedoms and sustaining democratic practices.
