Ganeshman Singh’s 111th Birth Anniversary Commemorated Nationwide

Kathmandu, Nov 10 (RSS) — The 111th birth anniversary of Ganeshman Singh, the supreme leader of the 2046 BS People’s Movement and a towering figure in Nepali politics, is being observed across the country today through various commemorative events.

Widely regarded as a symbol of sacrifice, courage, and integrity, Singh played a pivotal role in Nepal’s democratic struggles. Following the success of the 2046 BS People’s Movement, when then King Birendra offered him the post of Prime Minister, Singh made a historic decision to nominate his fellow leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai instead — a gesture that remains an enduring example of selflessness in national politics.

Born on 24 Kartik 1972 BS in Kshetrapati, Kathmandu, Singh hailed from a respected family and joined Nepal’s first political party, the Praja Parishad, in 1940. Actively involved in the anti-Rana movement, he was imprisoned by the Rana regime and later escaped from Bhadra Gol Jail in 2007 BS.

After fleeing to India, Singh strengthened ties with B.P. Koirala and became a key member of the Nepali National Congress, formed in 2003 BS. He also took part in the 2007 revolution aimed at ending the Rana rule and establishing democracy, even participating in armed resistance at the Birgunj front.

Throughout his political life, Ganeshman Singh remained steadfast in his commitment to democracy and closely aligned with Koirala’s ideals, dedicating his life to strengthening the Nepali Congress and democratic governance in Nepal.

Singh passed away on 2 Ashoj 2054 BS, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and unwavering dedication to the nation’s democratic cause.
