Govt scraps use of blue number plates used in vehicles of honorary consuls in Nepal
Kathmandu: The government has scrapped the blue number plates of the vehicles used by honorary consuls appointed by foreign governments in Nepal.
The decision to scrap the use of blue number plates was taken in accordance with the international law on the honorary consulate general, reciprocity, regulation on honorary consul, 2039 and the existing practice, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Among 67 consulates general in Nepal, 50 were enjoying such a facility.
The Ministry made it clear that the decision was also taken in response to complaints about the misuse of the vehicles with such number plates.
With this, the vehicles bearing blue number plates will be changed into private vehicles, and the Foreign Ministry will coordinate with the concerned agency to enforce the decision.
However, other rights of honorary consulates general would be kept intact.
