Continuous rain leads to flooding in Birgunj metropolitan city

Birgunj (Parsa): Continuous rainfall has resulted in flooding issues in Birgunj Metropolitan City areas at present. The heavy rain that began on Saturday has heightened the risk of flooding across various wards in the metropolitan city.

Rajeshman Singh, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan, shared that the ongoing rainfall has caused flooding challenges in various sections of the city. “Due to the relentless heavy rain, we are experiencing water drainage issues.

However, there have been no reported casualties or property damage due to flooding so far,” he said. “In all 32 wards of the metropolitan area, minor flooding has occurred in certain locations where water drainage is lacking.”
Mayor Singh also noted that, with the increased water flow in the Sirsiya River, a high alert has been established in communities along the riverbank. “Efforts to relocate communities near the Sirsia River, considering the potential risks, are currently in progress,” he mentioned.

“So far, there have been no human casualties in the metropolitan area.” Chief Singh indicated that residents in the flooded areas of Wards No. 11 and 17 are being moved to safer locations. “In anticipation of possible flooding from rains, schools and community halls in various neighborhoods have been opened to shelter those affected, and these facilities are presently operational,” he added.

“We are collaborating with all parties and are actively engaged in rescue operations.” Mayor Singh asserted that the embankment of Bhedaha Khola, constructed some time ago, has also mitigated significant damage thus far. “Previously, Bhedaha Khola caused considerable destruction in Ward No. 31 and other wards,” he added. “So far, the Bhedaha Khola embankment has remained intact.
