Cabinet decisions: Approval of report on UPR, submission to UN Council via Foreign Ministry

Kathmandu: The government has decided to approve the national report on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and submit it to the UN Human Rights Council via Foreign Ministry.

The recent Cabinet meetings approved the upcoming visits of Finance Minister and Finance Secretary in the joint meeting of the World Bank Groups and the International Monetary Fund to be held in the US.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, shared the decisions of the Cabinet meeting amidst a press conference on Friday.

The government endorsed the ‘Nepal Government (Work Division- 3rd Amendment) Regulation, 2082’, thereby bringing the significant departments under the respective ministries. With this, the Revenue Investigation Department and the Money Laundering Investigation Department are brought under Finance Ministry and the National Investigation Department under the Home Ministry. These departments were kept under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers by the previous governments.

Similarly, the government is accepting 4.19 million US Dollars from the UN Capital Development Fund for the enforcement of local climate adaptive livelihood programme. For the climate resilient transformation project in the paddy crops and food system, 8.7 million US dollars will be accepted as grants. It will be received from UN FAO.

Term of a study team formed under the coordination of former secretary Ramu Prasad Dotel has been extended by 45 days. The team is mandated to study the remuneration and incentives provided to the officials and employees at board, committee, authority and the public corporations run at State coffers and make recommendations for the uniformity in remuneration and incentives, the Minister informed.

Another significant decision the government had is the license system made mandatory to sell and purchase the land and house worth over Rs 30 million at a time in the metropolis and sub-metropolis area.

The online media are allowed to be registered from the Department of Information and Broadcasting.

Till further provision, Deputy Director General at Inland Revenue Department, Janak Raj Sharma, has been assigned to work as Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority.

Minister Kharel further shared that decision was made to form political committee, economic and infrastructure committee, administration committee, legislation committee and social committee under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

The government also made some promotions in civil service and the Nepali Army.
