Nationwide Day of Mourning today!
September 17, Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has declared a national day of mourning today to honour those who lost their lives during the ‘Gen Z’ protests. All government offices, Nepali embassies, and missions abroad have remained closed, and the national flag has been flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.
Home Ministry spokesperson Anand Kafle stated that the decision was made during the Council of Ministers meeting on September 16. The official statement reads, “To pay tribute to the individuals who tragically lost their lives during the protests led by the Gen Z generation on September 8 and 9, 2025, the Government of Nepal has declared Wednesday, September 17, 2025, a national day of mourning.
