Cash incentives to increase milk production
Gorkha, Aug 25: As an attempt to promote milk production and animal husbandry in Gorkha district, the farmers are being provided with the cash incentive scheme.
The Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre, Gorkha, has allocated Rs 1.5 million for the current fiscal year to distribute to the farmers for milk production. Chief of the Centre’s Senior Veterinarian, Dr Ananta Koirala, said that the farmers will be provided with a Rs 5 cash incentive for the production of per litre of milk. He said the move is aimed at making the district self-reliant in milk production by encouraging farmers through the cash incentive.
Dr Koirala said, “This will further support the farmers.” And the cooperative organisations enlisted in the Centre would be given the responsibility to distribute the cash. He was of the view that such incentive programmes would encourage farmers towards animal husbandry and hoped that the farmers would rear animals in an organised manner.
Milk produced in the concerned local levels in the district would be collected from the farmers’ doorsteps by the cooperative organisations, which would largely benefit the small farmers, according to Dr Koirala. The Gorkha Municipality, Palungtar Municipality and Siranchowk Rural Municipality produce a good amount of milk in the district.
