Discussion in committee on report related to national parks
Kathmandu: The Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, today, held a discussion on the report related to national parks.
In the discussions, the lawmakers emphasized the need to build wildlife-friendly infrastructure. They stressed the necessity of constructing wildlife-friendly infrastructure in national park areas to ensure the protection of wildlife and reduce human-wildlife conflict.
The committee president Maya Prasad Sharma, stated that they will move forward through collaboration after discussing in detail how to manage parks and the buffer zone areas. He said, ‘What should we do if there are mineral resources within the national parks? How to manage it? We need to discuss this matter and move forward.’
Committee member Madan Kumari Shah emphasized the need to construct ‘underpasses’ and ‘overpasses’ infrastructure to protect wildlife from vehicular accidents within the park. She pointed out the need for detailed discussions to address the problems arising from the complicated provisions in the current law.
During the discussion, MPs including Sumitra BC, Rukmini Koirala, Shree Krishna Adhikari, and Nara Bahadur Bista suggested the need to discuss various provisions related to national parks and buffer zones with the concerned authorities and experts.
