Measures will be in place to reduce cyber threats: Minister Gurung
Kathmandu, July 2: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said adequate measures would be taken to reduce cyber threats.
Prediction and monitoring of cyber threats would be enhanced, he added. Minister Gurung said it while putting forth his views on a deliberation relating to the line ministry in the National Assembly meeting on Wednesday. The Cyber Security Centre would be further strengthened, he added.
The National Cyber Security Centre was established to create a resilient cyberspace and to curb cyber threats accordingly. Even the IT and Cyber Security Bill was tabled in the parliament, according to him. The Centre was running around the clock. A web monitoring system was also adopted, he said, adding that an integrated website management system was in place, ensuring uniformity in the government websites.
Moreover, he informed that the government was at work to make new policies and laws and update the old ones to make the mass communications sector accountable and credible. “To ensure all citizens’ access to mass media, news and opinions were published in 45 languages by the Gorkhapatra daily, while broadcasting was done in 25 languages by the Public Service Broadcasting, and dissemination of news and opinions in 5 languages by the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS). In the coming years, news content will be published and broadcasted in additional languages as well,” he shared.
The quality of the content broadcasted by the PSB institute will be increased to make it audience-friendly. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is going to monitor the Press Council Nepal’s media monitoring to ensure the credibility of journalism, according to him. An Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centre will be established for the promotion of the use of AI and its regulation. The Minister also shared other works being carried out by the Ministry.
