Success of provinces key to Federal Republic’s strength: President Paudel
Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that the success of the provinces is directly tied to the success of the federal democratic republic, emphasizing that provinces play a vital role in institutionalizing the achievements of recent political movements.
Speaking at a meeting with provincial heads held at Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday, President Paudel stated, “If provinces are strengthened, the federal system as a whole will be strengthened. The relevance and importance of the constitution will be affirmed through the timely formulation and sincere implementation of necessary federal, provincial, and local laws.”
He remarked that provincial heads are not only the ceremonial leaders of their respective provinces but also act as representatives of the central government, serving as a vital link between the federal and provincial governments. “You are the bridge of federalism,” the President said, calling for continuous communication, coordination, and dialogue between the President’s Office and the provinces.
Highlighting the urgency of implementing provincial laws, President Paudel stressed that timely legislation and execution are key to delivering the benefits of federalism to the people. “This will build public trust in the system, and we must not delay in this responsibility,” he added.
He underlined that the strength of a province lies not only in its administrative structure but in its ability to become inclusive, people-focused, and well-governed. “We must link political achievements with improvements in citizens’ lives, promote healthy competition among provinces, and enhance inter-provincial cooperation.”
President Paudel encouraged the provincial chiefs to fully utilize internal resources to shape unique models of development and provide guidance to their respective governments in this regard. He emphasized that ensuring dignity, self-respect, and prosperity for citizens must remain the central objective of provincial governance.
“My focus is on good governance, effective service delivery, and strengthening democracy. I believe it is also important to engage with intellectuals and civil society leaders to promote democratic values among the public,” he said.
The President also called for active engagement in promoting sectors such as agriculture, tourism, education, health, literature, art, and culture through broader collaboration and outreach.
During the meeting, the heads of all seven provinces shared the challenges they face, particularly related to legal ambiguities and administrative confusion, and urged the President to draw the attention of relevant authorities for timely resolution.
