NPC Vice Chair Adhikari and UK Ambassador Fenn discuss climate action and research collaboration

June 23, Kathmandu: Prof. Dr Shiva Raj Adhikari, Vice Chairperson of Nepal’s National Planning Commission (NPC), and Rob Fenn, the UK Ambassador to Nepal, met on Monday at the NPC office in Singha Durbar to discuss deepening bilateral ties.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in plan implementation, research, and addressing climate change challenges. Vice Chair Adhikari highlighted that Nepal’s 16th Plan adopts a unique thematic approach, with implementation strategies currently being developed through coordinated consultations with ministries to maximise benefits and resolve contradictions.

Ambassador Fenn praised the NPC’s strategic work plan, drawing parallels with the UK’s problem-solving partnership model for policy and implementation. He emphasised creating a favourable environment for foreign investment in Nepal and pledged UK support to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Ambassador Fenn also expressed the UK’s commitment to long-term collaboration in education, research, and economic sectors, particularly to help Nepal navigate trade challenges following its anticipated graduation from Least Developed Country status in 2026.

Both sides explored opportunities for research partnerships with UK institutions and universities and discussed strategies to address post-graduation trade impacts. They agreed to strengthen Nepal-UK collaboration in research, policy coordination, and sustainable development initiatives.
