Kathmandu: Eleven people have died in fire incidents across Nepal between mid-April and mid-May this year, including three men, five women, two boys, and one girl.
Nepal Police Central Spokesperson and Senior Superintendent Ramesh Thapa reported that 67 others were injured during this period—27 men, 32 women, and eight children.
Thapa noted a significant rise in fire incidents, resulting in substantial loss of life and property. Despite public awareness, most fires could have been prevented.
In the last month, fires have damaged 151 houses, 101 barns, and three government offices, while 189 livestock have perished. Financial losses exceed Rs 240 million. A total of 110 families have been displaced, with 634 fire incidents reported nationwide.
By province, Lumbini recorded the highest number of fires with 143 incidents, followed by Koshi (136), Madhesh (104), Bagmati (64), Kathmandu Valley (32), Gandaki (53), Karnali (43), and Sudurpaschim (59).
Fire experts attribute many of the incidents to human activities, urging greater caution and prevention measures.
