Koshi Province Investment Summit: PM calls for investing confidently

Biratnagar: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on investors at home and abroad to choose Nepal as the investment destination, stating that it offers ample potential and a favourable atmosphere towards that end.

Inaugurating the Koshi Investment Summit-2082 BS organised by the Koshi province government today, the Prime Minister has urged the administrative sector to focus on the mobilisation of internal and external investment, as Nepal has a favourable atmosphere for investment in multiple areas, including religious, cultural and touristic aspects.

He pledged all sorts of facilitations on the part of the government to build an investment-friendly system. The Koshi Province will be connected to the six-lane East-West Highway of the Asian standard in the future, he said.

Underlining the need to guarantee production, he said, ‘We can explore potentialities in each sector.’ The Prime Minister said road infrastructure with corridors and transit facilities has been constructed in the Province, adding that there will be no issue for the transportation and marketing of the products here.

He promised to upgrade various airports in the country in Biratnagar. The Koshi province is rich with cultural, religious and heritage. It has sufficient potential for herbs. Citizens here are educated and hardworking. That’s why it presents sufficient investment potential,’ he said.

PM Oli utilised the moment to call on youths to seek entrepreneurship. He also wanted the global branding of the world’s tallest mountain by its Nepali name, ‘Sagarmatha’. The Prime Minister said the government is always committed to the respect of labour, and the protection of the trade union rights, in aligns with the IILO standards, prioritising the dialogue between employers and workforce.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Koshi Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki, who said the summit, organised for the first time in the province, would help build the national capital and create jobs.

According to him, the Summit is expected to be the platform for mobilising the capital above 100 billion. He expressed his hope that 71 projects in eight sectors will come into operation after the summit.

‘Potential investors are encouraged by the event,’ he said, adding that the government is working in a way that investors from home, the foreign community, the non-resident community and the province will benefit.
