NC leader Dangol cremated
Kathmandu, April 26: The cremation of former chair of Kathmandu district chapter of the Nepali Congress (NC), Tirtha Ram Dangol, was held at Teku Dobhan, Kathmandu today.
The performance of Dangol’s last rites adhered to the Newari rituals. Dangol, who also had served as the Minister for Health, passed away last Friday in Kathmandu at the age of 77. He had been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and kidney related ailments for a long time.
Dangol’s wife Tej Maya and brother Balram Dangol lit the lamp on Dangol’s mortal remains as one of the rituals of final rites.
The funeral saw a large number of the deceased’s family members, relatives, friends as well as NC leaders and alike.
His contribution span from building party organization to leading various democratic movements in the country- watershed movement against regression in 2062/63 BS that laid a foundation for the establishment of republican system by overthrowing monarchy.
He was elected to the House of Representatives twice, once in 2056 BS and in 2065 BS.
Prior to the cremation, Dongol’s body was kept at the NC’s central office for tributes. Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and other leaders and cadres as well as Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol offered tributes to the departed one.
Dangol’s fellow politicians and well-wishers commended late Dangol as a fearless and ardent supporter of truth while Dangol’s partners in politics Bhimsendas Pradhan recalled that Dangol had repeatedly cautioned the party’s top leadership against the nepotism and factionalism. Dangol would bat for merit over nepotism and factionalism, Pradhan recollected his beloved friend.
Likewise, National Assembly member Anjan Shakya commented that the demise of Dangol had incurred a huge loss to the NC as well as country for the late leader was known for attributes such as leadership acumen, honesty and loyalty.
