PM stresses on considering dimensions involved in national security

Kathmandu, March 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need to face the challenges that could emerge by realizing the new dimensions of national security.

At a program organized at Singhadurbar on Tuesday on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the National Security Council’s secretariat, Council Chairperson Oli argued that the causes, including the cybercrime resulting from the misuse of information and technology, trans-border crime, climate change, drug abuse and misuse of social networking sites could make the country sensitive to national security with the rapid development of information and technology despite traditional security challenges.

He said various new dimensions and trends are emerging in the regional and international security environment, while stressing the need to assess and analyze them promptly and formulate an appropriate strategy accordingly, knowing its effects, impacts and challenges in the national security.

Stressing the need for all concerned bodies, political parties and others to move ahead with proper coordination and cooperation to further strengthen the country’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and national unity, PM Oli stressed the need to work according to the concept of ‘whole of the Nation’ in the context of national security.

It may be noted that Article 266 (1) of the section provides for the formation of a council under the leadership of the Prime Minister to formulate policies relating to the overall national interest, security and defense of Nepal and to make recommendations to the government and the Council of Ministers. —RSS
