Kanchanjungha- World’s third tallest peak to mark platinum jublee

 

Taplejung, Feb 10: On the occasion of the first-ever successful expedition to Mt. Kanchanjungha, the Kanchanjungha Platinum Jubilee-2082 is being marked in Taplejung district.

 

The Kanchanjungha Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated on 18-20 April at Lelep of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-5 in Taplejung district. The logo and slogan for the celebration were announced on Monday.

 

On the occasion, the treasurer of the Kanchanjungha Conservation Area Management Council and coordinator of the Festival Coordination Committee, Tshewang Sherpa, said the festival would contribute to the conservation of natural heritages and promote tourism.

 

The event will be organized in partnership with different organizations. Member-Secretary of the Council Man Kumar Rai said that discussions were ongoing for a financial and programmatic partnership with the Koshi Province Government.

 

The event would include publicity of touristic heritages, promotion of trekking routes, cultural programs, promotion of local productions and cuisines, and so on. The organizer said that the families of the first expedition team members and other summiteers will be invited in honor of the historic journey of the Kanchanjungha expedition.

 

After the conclusion of the main event at Lelep, a national-level special celebration will be marked in Kathmandu too. The world’s third tallest peak, Mt. Kanchanjungha, is the second tallest peak in Nepal with an altitude of 8,586 meters. British nationals George Band and Joe Brown first reached the top of Mt. Kanchanjungha on May 25, 1955. —RSS
