Over 200 children of Musahar community missing classes for two months

Jaleshwor: More than 200 children of Majhaura village of Matihani municipality-4 in Mahottari district have not gone to school for the past two months. There are 75 families in the Musahar community in Majhaura village.

The children of the Musahar community have not gone to Shree Secondary School, Majhaura, even a single day in the month of Mangsir and Poush due to the chilling cold. The school is located around 300 meters away from their settlement.

A local Sunaina Devi Sada said the Musahar children have been facing a shortage of warm clothes, and food adding the children have remained absent from school with the onset of the winter season.

The locals said they are compelled to force their children to stay home with the fear that their children might fall sick due to lack of warm clothes.

“The Musahar families are facing difficulties to earn bread for their members as they are not getting employment due to freezing cold. The study of their children has added more burden to them”, shared Ram Sebak Sada.

Ward Chairperson Abdul Gaffar Raien said they could not force Musahar families to send their children to school as there is no condition to fulfill the needs of children.

Mentioning that the Nepali Army distributed one blanket to each family of the settlement last week, it was not enough for them, shared Koshila Devi Sada.
