RSP Chair Lamichhane to appear before District Court Kathmandu today
Gandaki, Jan 10: Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, is appearing before the District Court, Kathmandu, today.
He was released on bail yesterday after he deposited the bail amount of Rs 6.5 million in Kaski after Kaski District Court ordered his release on bail over the case relating to the embezzlement of funds from a local Suryadarshan Cooperatives Saving and Cooperatives, Pokhara.
Lamichhane, who is also the former home minister, was handed over to his family. He is facing a similar case of misappropriation of funds in a cooperative in Kathmandu. RSP Chairman Lamichhane will appear before the District Court, Kathmandu, today, according to acting spokesperson Manish Jha. In the same case, the District Court released six persons, including Lamichhane, on bail.
They were Chhabi Lal Joshi, Ram Bahadur Khanal, Krishna Bahadur Gurung, Mina Gurung, and Arati Gurung, according to the record keeper at Kaski District Court, Rajan Khanal. District judge Nitij Rai handed down the bail amount of Rs 6.5 million to Lamichhane, Rs 8.8 million to Joshi, Rs 3.7 million to Pachhai, Rs. 1.5 million to Khanal, Rs. 500,000 to Mina Gurung, Rs. 500,000 to Arati Gurung, and Rs. 100,000 to Krishna Bahadur Gurung.
However, Pachhai failed to submit the bail amount, resulting in the continuation of detention. The hearing on whether to continue remand for investigation lasted for 10 days. The District Attorney’s Office, Kaski, on December 22, had filed a case against 44 persons, including Lamichhane, accusing them of embezzling the cooperative’s fund. Further investigation on those released on bail would be continued. —RSS
