Govt. Attorney Office is backbone of criminal justice system: CJ Raut
Kathmandu, Dec 23: Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut has shared that the Government Attorney Office is the backbone of the criminal justice system.
At a program organized here on Monday on the occasion of the 74th Establishment Day of the Attorney General, Chief Justice Raut pointed out the need to develop the capacity and professionalism of prosecutors to make criminal justice administration effective.
He mentioned, “Capability, impartiality, professionalism, and accountability of associated organizations and bodies are indispensable for the effectiveness and credibility of the criminal justice system.” He made aware further activeness not to let mistakes and weaknesses in performance delivered from the government and legal provisions in decisions as the Attorney General has to play the role of the chief legal advisor of the government of Nepal.
Similarly, Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Chaurasiya said the government was always ready to amend laws and correct weaknesses to provide justice to the people easily and smoothly. Likewise, the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Madhav Prasad Regmi, the President of the Nepal Bar Association, Gopal Krishna Ghimire, and former Attorney General Dr Din Mani Pokharel stressed the importance of proper investigation and prosecution to improve the criminal justice system.
Attorney General Ramesh Badal shared that preparations were underway to make laws to resolve practical problems seen in the criminal justice system and continuously involved in improving the overall sides of the Government Attorney Office.
On the occasion, Joint Attorney General Surya Raj Dahal, as well as 10 other people from different District Attorney Offices, were awarded, while former Attorney General Pokharel and former Deputy Attorney Generals Padam Prasad Pandey and Bishwo Raj Koirala were honored. —RSS
