Rights activists demand transparency in selection of officials at transitional justice mechanism
Kathmandu: The rights activists have demanded transparency and credibility in the appointment of officials at transitional justice mechanisms- Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on Investigation of Enforced Disappeared Persons.
Although the committee formed to recommend names for the commissions began its works, it did not proceed credibly, they argued.
The rights defenders Sushil Pyakurel, Kanakmani Dixit, Charan Prasain, Kundan Aryal, Dinesh Tripathi, Raju Chapagain and Mandira Sharma issued the statement, drawing the attention of the selection commission.
‘We’re worried over the flawed process of formation of the commission, the body with a serious responsibility to conclude transitional justice over the human rights violations occurred during the armed conflict in Nepal,’ the statement read.
Inadequate time, incomplete information and lack of publicity have shrouded the selection process in mystery.
