U-19 women’s cricket team qualifies for World Cup
Kathmandu: The Nepali U-19 women’s cricket team has qualified for the ICC T20 Women’s U-19 World Cup 2025.
Nepal qualified for the World Cup to be held in Malaysia next year after defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 8 wickets in the final match of the Asia Qualifiers of the World Cup held in the UAE.
In today’s match, Nepal had to win by a big margin to make it to the World Cup. After winning the toss and batting first, the home team set a target of 84 runs for Nepal to win in the match played at the Seven Districts Stadium in Ajman, UAE.
In reply, Nepal completed the target in 14.4 overs with the loss of 2 wickets. In the chase, Sana Praveen scored the highest with 35 runs for Nepal followed by Captain Pooja Mahato who contributed 21 runs.
Similarly, Soni Pakhreen scored 13 and Sabitri Dhami made 12 runs. For the UAE, Mehek Thakur took the 2 wickets.
Earlier, the UAE scored 83 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In limiting the hosts to a meagre total, Krishma Gurung took 4 wickets for Nepal. Similarly, Rhea Sharma and Seema KC took 2 wickets each while Rachana Kumari Chaudhary took one wicket. In the Asia Qualifiers, Nepal won four out of five matches.
Along with hosts, the UAE, Thailand and Kuwait were also competing for a spot in the World Cup. Only one team was to qualify for it, which has been grabbed by Nepal.
