German Unity Day celebrated in Kathmandu, highlighting strong bilateral ties

October 2, Kathmandu: The German Unity Day was celebrated with a reception hosted by the German Embassy in Kathmandu on Wednesday, with Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav as the chief guest.

German Ambassador to Nepal, Dr. Thomas Prinz, emphasized the strong ties between Germany and Nepal, reflecting on Germany’s ongoing support for Nepal’s development, especially in renewable energy, health, and sustainable economic growth. He informed about Germany’s commitment of 51 million euros, pledged in July, to fund these initiatives.

In light of the recent rain-induced disasters in Nepal, Ambassador Prinz expressed condolences and announced that the German government has offered up to 100,000 euros for immediate relief efforts. A minute of silence was observed to mourn the loss of more than 200 lives in the disasters.

Ambassador Prinz also referenced the recent visit of Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Paudel to Germany, underscoring the continued strengthening of bilateral relations.

The reception was attended by various dignitaries, including politicians, former ministers, government officials, diplomats, and representatives from multiple sectors.
