‘Make RSS a source of credible news’
Kathmandu, Sept 2: Former presidents of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) have suggested the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) to establish itself as a source of credible news to inform people and State. For it to happen, RSS needs to make its service effective, they stressed.
Extending best wishes to RSS on its formal launch of 24-hour news service in Nepali language, the former presidents figured out the need of technology, workforce and resource management to continue its image of a news agency that provides service round the clock.
Pay heed to credibility: Harihar Birahi
It is moment to congratulate entire RSS family, including its Executive Chairman Dharmendra Jha for formally launching the 24-hour service.
It is however a challenging task to run RSS at such difficult time when some developed countries have taken news agency as a burden, while some popular news agencies have already been vanished. Nepal is able to continue it despite problems. True information and news are pillars of RSS. As it is a State-run, it has its own limitation. However, the limitations at present are not like that of the past.
So, RSS requires adding up its credibility by exercising further freedoms in the realm of information ecosystem.
There is no ‘deadline’ for RSS: Suresh Acharya
Agency journalism has no ‘deadline’. It is the essence of agency journalism. So, launch of 24-hour service is no surprise. It had to be done earlier.
As news agency covers news irrespective of border in the wake of globalization and tech expansion, it is right decision to go round the clock. Similarly, expanding Nepali disapora is equally relevant for the RSS service diversity.
Now, RSS must not limit itself to government news but of the people. Its first duty is to provide information of and to the people. While providing news quickly, it must not be misleading. The present initiatives require adequate resources for its continuation. Congratulations to entire RSS!
Make RSS autonomous: Govinda Acharya
Govinda Acharya expressed happiness over RSS’s service expansion for 24 hours. He said other media have their own limitations and budget crunch, but RSS has managed its reporters in all districts on its own.
Many media subscribe to RSS news as they are reliable and trustworthy. RSS’s self-sufficiency and independence in work is a pressing need.
Some discussions were also made whether RSS could be operated under the management of the parliament so that it would not be dependent on government for budget, according to him.
He suggested RSS adopted a latest technology to immediately dispatch news.
