November 29, Kathmandu: The Embassy of Israel hosted a closed screening on Wednesday, showcasing compiled video footage depicting the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel. Following the screening, the Ambassador of Israel to Nepal, Hanan Goder, gave an exclusive interview to Radio Nepal’s editor Kaushal Ghimire

Interview:

Today, we viewed a disturbing video of the Hamas massacre in Israel, highlighting the group’s brutality. Ambassador Goder, this was your first time seeing it as well. What were your initial reactions?

Ambassador Goder: Indeed, today we witnessed a 42-minute video capturing the tragic events of the Hamas massacre. It was a restricted viewing due to privacy concerns for the victims and their families. This video has been shown in numerous parliaments worldwide to raise awareness. As for my first viewing, it was a deeply distressing experience.

Could you provide a concise overview of the message behind showing this video?

Ambassador Goder: The purpose of screening this video is to underscore the terroristic nature of Hamas. It is essential to convey that, at the end of the conflict, Hamas cannot remain in Gaza. Our objective is to ensure justice by disarming the group, apprehending those involved, and bringing them before open courts for due process.

You mentioned efforts to prevent civilian casualties. How do you foresee the resolution of this conflict?

Ambassador Goder: We are committed to minimizing harm to civilians, but the duration of the conflict is uncertain. Its conclusion depends on Hamas surrendering. As I said before, they must relinquish their weapons, allowing us to collect and address the individuals seen in the videos. We aim for a just resolution through legal processes. We will bring them to justice and they will be prosecuted in an open court.

One of our own is being held hostage by Hamas, can you give us the latest update about Bipin Joshi?

Ambassador Goder: I really wish and hope Bipin is alive and well. We call for his immediate release. Our plea extends to all hostages, urging their freedom. Bipin should return to his family, neighbourhood, and university. Our message is clear: all hostages should be freed.

Ambassador Goder: I want to express gratitude for the solidarity shown by individuals and organizations, including parliamentarians, NGOs, and civil groups. It is crucial that we work together to address this pressing issue and unite to face terrorism in all its forms.
