Dr Wagle wins in Tanahun-1 HoR by-election

April 25, Kathmandu: Dr. Swarnim Wagle, the candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party, has won the by-election in constituency no. 1 of Tanahun district and has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives (HoR).

He secured 34,911 votes, defeating his nearest contender, Govinda Bhattarai of the Nepali Congress, who received 20,122 votes, and CPN UML candidate Sarbendra Khanal, who received 8,488 votes.

Shova Gurung, the candidate of Rastriya Prajanatra Party, received 218 votes, while Bhim Bahadur Sunar of Nagarik Unmukti Party got 99 votes, Ram Prasad Prajapati of NWPP (Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party) received 31 votes, Prem Bahadur Thapa of Mongol National Organization received 166 votes, Purna Bahadur Rana of Rastriya Janamukti got 87 votes, and Ganesh Shrestha of CPN Socialist received 5 votes.

The by-election was held on April 23 in Tanahun-1 after the post of HoR member was left vacant following the election of HoR member and leader of Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Paudel, as the President. A total of 65,316 votes were cast in the by-election, out of which 64,135 were valid.
