National Census report: Nepal’s population now 29,164,578

Kathmandu: Nepal’s population has reached 29 million 1 hundred and 64 thousand 5 hundred and 78.

Unveiling the final data of the 2021 census, the National Statistics Office has confirmed that Nepal has a female population of 14 million 9 hundred and 11 thousand and 27 and a male population of 14 million 2 hundred and 53 thousand 5 hundred and 51.

As per the data unveiled, there are 7 hundred thousand less males than females in Nepal bringing the sex ratio at 0.98.

For the first time Nepal has recorded the gender minorities in the statistics. As per the data, there are 2 thousand 9 hundred and 29 gender minorities.

The data shows Kathmandu as the most populous district in contrast to Manang as the least populous district. As per the data, Kathmandu has 2.04 million population while Manang has meager population of 5 thousand 6 hundred and 85.

Comparing in terms of provinces, Bagmati Province has the largest population while Karnali Province has the smallest population. As per the data, Bagmati province has 20.97% of population while Karnali Province has 5.79% of total population.

The final report on the census also shows that 34 districts have witnessed negative growth in population. Notably, Bhojpur, Khotang, Manang and Terhathum have seen decline in population.

As pre the report, Nepal’s population growth rate is at 0.92% and its population density is at 1 hundred and 98 people per square kilometers.

The new data also shows that Nepal’s urban population has been growing rapidly. As per the statistics, the urban population has reached 66.17 % in contrast of 33.83% of rural population.

Likewise, 2.19 million Nepalis are living in foreign lands.

Meanwhile, unveiling the final report on the 2021 census today, Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said the recent statistics would provide facts and data to take objective decisions.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister also said the government has prioritized the implementation of the recently issued statistics act for bolstering the management of data through an integrated system.
