Dr Ruit receives Bahrain’s prestigious Isa Award

February 22, Kathmandu: Senior ophthalmologist and the executive director at the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, Dr Sanduk Ruit, has received Isa Award for Service to Humanity.

Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa honoured Dr Ruit with the prestigious award amid a programme organized in Bahrain on Tuesday.

The award carries a purse of $1 million. The award has been conferred on Dr Ruit in recognition of his contribution to eliminating blindness through surgery.

The award instituted in the name of the former King of Bahrain Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa in 2009 is being distributed by the Isa Award for Service to Humanity Organization for individuals who have made remarkable contributions to humanity.

Although 145 organizations and candidates from across the world had applied, Dr Ruit received the prestigious award. Dr Ruit has devised a new method for treating cataracts and his institution has been producing intraocular lenses of international standards at a fairly low price to treat blindness.
