Election Commission to update voter list using National ID and civil registration data

Kathmandu: The Election Commission is preparing to update and verify the voter list using data from the National Identity Card and Civil Registration Departments.

Under an agreement signed on October 29, the Commission will use information from the personal event registration and social security management information systems to update voter records.

Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the departments would securely share civil registration data with the Commission through technical systems.

The agreement also provides for a joint technical working group to address implementation challenges and ensure data security and confidentiality.

The collaboration is expected to make voter registration and verification more systematic, reliable and effective.
