Kaligandaki Flood: Temporary power transmission tower installed

Myagdi, Oct 18: The Dana-Khurkot transmission line, part of the Kaligandaki Corridor with a capacity of 220 KV, which sustained damage due to flooding and erosion in the Kaligandaki region, has been successfully restored.

A temporary tower constructed utilizing Canadian technology has been established to enable emergency electrical supply during catastrophic events.

Following the destruction of three transmission line towers in Annapurna Rural Municipality-1 Dowa and 6 Dhirchang of Myagdi, 176 megawatts of electricity generated by seven hydropower facilities in Myagdi and Mustang remained disconnected from the national transmission infrastructure since the flood.

Roshan Khadka, Head of Gandaki Province Grid Branch of Nepal Electricity Authority, reported that the line was energized at 10:30 on Saturday evening after the wire installation work was finalized through the construction of a temporary tower to replace the three towers destroyed by the flood.

“Through the deployment of technical personnel from the Nepal Electricity Authority and the Kaligandaki hydropower project, we successfully reconnected the electricity to the national system within 20 days following the flood-related damage,” he stated.

Sanjay Lohani, assistant director of the authority, explained that a temporary tower incorporating Canadian technology was constructed in place of the three damaged towers, and electrical supply was restored.

The temporary tower has been erected in Aula of Annapurna Rural Municipality-1 Doba, situated across from the Bhirkate section of the Beni-Jomsom road.

More than 20 engineers, an equivalent number of technicians, and more than 50 workers from hydropower projects and divisions in Kaligandaki have been engaged over the preceding 15 days. RSS
