Nepal Red Cross initiates comprehensive response to flood affected people

Kathmandu, Oct 15: The Nepal Red Cross Society, in collaboration with Bidur Municipality, has initiated a comprehensive response to the recent floods in the Bhotekoshi area, providing immediate financial assistance of one lakh rupees to affected families.

This initiative was announced by Jagan Chapagain, the General Secretary and CEO of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), during his visit to the flood-impacted regions.

The partnership aims not only to address immediate humanitarian needs but also to enhance recovery, rehabilitation, and resilience against future disasters.

The signed agreement outlines various areas of cooperation, including health assistance, water sanitation, housing support, and economic recovery.

Specifically, the Red Cross plans to assist 1,000 families with livelihood restoration, provide housing rent for 2,000 households until permanent solutions are found, and manage 600 households directly.

Additionally, the Red Cross will repair a 7.5-kilometer pipeline of the Bidur water supply project, benefiting approximately 30,000 individuals, and will focus on restoring health and educational infrastructure.

A joint coordination committee will be established to oversee the implementation of these programmes, ensuring effective management and monitoring.

The Red Cross leadership emphasized the importance of local coordination for successful programme execution, while local officials expressed optimism that this collaboration will significantly aid in the rehabilitation of affected communities and improve living conditions. RSS
