Ministry of Education allocates Rs 6.5 billion to overhaul infrastructure across 109 major public schools

October 14, Kathmandu: The Ministry of Education and Sports has launched a major infrastructure development initiative to upgrade facilities across 109 high-enrollment community schools nationwide. The targeted public schools each accommodate over 2,000 students and have demonstrated strong academic outcomes.
Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel announced an overall budget allocation of NPR 6.54 billion for the current fiscal year to support structural enhancements. Under the initial phase of the rollout, NPR 5.34 billion has been disbursed to 89 selected schools to initiate the immediate construction of standardized three-story, 12-room academic blocks.
Each structural project represents an investment of approximately NPR 60 million per school, featuring modern classrooms, fully equipped laboratories, and dedicated library spaces designed to elevate the learning environment.
Addressing capacity imbalances across the public school system, Minister Pokharel noted that the initiative prioritizes larger institutions experiencing high student density, establishing a foundation for the eventual upgrading of community school infrastructure nationwide.
