On Air Station:

No increase in internet tariff, action to be taken if charged high-NTA

Kathmandu, Oct 10: The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has clarified that there is no increment in internet service charges, warning it will take action against the service providers charging higher tariffs than the approved rate and operating services in an unauthorized way.

Drawing attention to news reports published in the media of late about an increase in internet service charges, the NTA has recently clarified it has not received any proposal from internet service providers to hike prices.

The telecom regulatory authority pointed out that telecommunication service providers’ charges for services should be fair and reasonable.

It reminded that tariffs must be determined with the effective date noted and submitted for approval at least three months in advance as per the NTA directives.

The Authority also sensitized consumers about the legal provisions requiring publication of the approved rate, prohibition of charging more than the approved rate, increasing fees without prior approval, and operating services in an unauthorized way.

The NTA has warned that it will take action against service providers under the Telecommunications Act and Regulations for breaching the rules. RSS
