Condolence over demise of former lawmaker Basnet

Kathmandu: The Former Parliamentarians’ Forum of Nepal has expressed deep grief over the passing of former lawmaker and Forum’s vice president Ghanendra Basnet.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Forum said it was aggrieved over the demise of Basnet, who served as the vice president of the Forum. Basnet was receiving treatment at a cancer hospital in Bhaktapur.

Originally from Kulung Kamletar of Bhojpur district and born on 25 Ashwin 2009 BS, Basnet was an unforgettable person in the fight against the party-less Panchayat system. He played a vital role in the Jhapa Movement and was imprisoned multiple times, totaling 17 years.

The Forum remembered the late Basnet as a straightforward, brave and dedicated leader. Basnet’s family members have been extended condolence at such hour of grief.
