Public welfare advertisement rates determined on scientific and procedural grounds: Communications Minister Dr Timilsina

Kathmandu: Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina clarified that the rates of public welfare advertisement to be provided to newspapers were determined on a scientific, objective and procedural basis.

Responding to the queries raised by lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he further said the rates for public welfare advertisements were determined based on existing rates, newspaper classification, number of advertisement publications, and audit reports from the Office of the Auditor General.

According to Communications Minister Dr Timilsina, the current national-level ‘A’ category rate of Rs 35,200 per month for publishing public welfare advertisements in newspapers has been taken as a reference for base rate.

Previously the rate was Rs 35,219, which has now been adjusted to Rs 35,200 to mend proportional discrepancies, maintaining a 20 percent ratio. He informed the House that the provisions regarding equivalence in Section 41 of the Newspaper Distribution Verification Criteria, 2066 BS (Amended–2079) have also been implemented.

According to this provision, equivalence has been maintained for national, provincial, and local level newspapers based on their respective categories.
