TU recovers over Rs 160 million from staffs failing to return after study leave

Kathmandu: The Tribhuvan University (TU) has recovered around Rs 165 million from teachers and staff members who failed to return to work after taking study leave as required by the university regulations.

According to the Employee Administration Division under the TU Registrar’s Office, the University has so far recovered the amount in 75 cases. The oldest varsity of the country initiated a process to recover payments from its absconding teachers and staffs who either did not return to work after completing study leave or returned but failed to complete the mandatory service period.

Their recovery includes salaries, allowances and other benefits received from the University during the study leave, along with penalties as prescribed by the rules. The University stated that it is also reviewing records and calculating amounts owed in additional cases.

Available records show that the amount assessed in cases where calculations have been completed stands at around Rs 215 million. The TU also said that it is tracing and reviewing the personal records of teachers and staffs who have come into contact with the university while efforts to recover outstanding amounts are ongoing.

Against this backdrop, the TU has urged teachers and staffs who failed to return to work after study leave or did not complete the required service period to contact the Registrar’s Office by the end of mid-January next year.

The TU has warned that those who fail to contact the University within the stipulated period would face legal action in accordance with the undertakings they signed with the University and prevailing University regulations.
