Nepal and Micronesia establish diplomatic relations

Kathmandu: Nepal and the Federated States of Micronesia have established diplomatic relations.

With this, the number of countries with which Nepal has diplomatic relations has reached 185.

Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lok Bahadur Thapa, and Micronesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Jeem S. Lippwe, signed a joint statement to this effect, according to the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN.

On the occasion, the two representatives exchanged views on cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including at national and international forums.

Micronesia is an island nation in the western Pacific Ocean, comprising more than 600 islands.

It gained independence on November 3, 1986, and joined the United Nations on September 17, 1991.

Micronesia covers an area of 701 square kilometres and has an estimated population of around 100,000.

Both Nepal and Micronesia are members of the Group of 77, or G77.
