Bhotekoshi floods damage 18 schools; Rs 4.23 billion estimated for reconstruction

Kathmandu: Eighteen schools in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts were damaged by the Bhotekoshi flash floods on August 26.

Eleven of the schools were completely destroyed, causing an estimated loss of Rs 937 million.

According to the Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment, RDNA, report prepared by the National Planning Commission and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, NDRRMA, a total of 56 buildings of the 18 schools were affected.

The report said 152 rooms were partially damaged, while 156 rooms were completely destroyed.

In Rasuwa, four schools were damaged — one in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality and three in Uttargaya Rural Municipality.

In Nuwakot, nine schools in Budur Municipality were affected by the floods.

In Dhading, three school buildings in Galchhi Rural Municipality were damaged. One school in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality was also affected.

Similarly, four buildings of a school in Siddhalek Rural Municipality were damaged.

The government is estimated to require around Rs 4.23 billion for the reconstruction of the damaged schools.
