Bhotekoshi flood: 1,367 bodies recovered so far

Kathmandu: A total of 1,367 bodies have been recovered so far from the devastating flash floods that hit the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems on August 26.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the bodies were recovered from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan, Nawalparasi East and Nawalparasi West.

NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 102 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families.

The number of officially recorded missing people stands at 5,132, including security personnel, government employees and around 589 foreign tourists.

So far, 13,646 people have been rescued, while 3,628 people are staying at holding centres in Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa and Kathmandu.

Similarly, 7,151 people have received medical treatment.

Security agencies, local governments and various government and non-government agencies are continuing search, rescue, relief and other management operations in the affected areas.
