Power restoration intensified in flood-hit areas

Kathmandu: Efforts to restore electricity services disrupted by the devastating Bhotekoshi River flood in Rasuwa have been intensified, according to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

The Ministry said restoration work began from the day after the August 26 flood, mobilising available human and other resources.

As the disaster caused extensive damage to electricity infrastructure, alternative measures have also been adopted to speed up the restoration process.

Electricity services were restored on Tuesday in wards 10 and 11 of Bidur Municipality in Nuwakot, which were affected by the flood.

According to the Ministry, electricity services have so far been restored in around 83 percent of affected areas in Rasuwa and 95 percent in Nuwakot.

Meanwhile, the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre is working to provide two-kilowatt solar systems to community shelters and individual solar systems to households in areas where regular electricity services have yet to resume.
