UN Resident Coordinator pays courtesy call on Minister Chaudhary

Kathmandu: United Nations Resident Coordinator for Nepal, Lila Pieters Yahia, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Agriculture, Forests and Environment, Gita Chaudhary.

During the meeting held at the Ministry on Monday, they discussed the issues of making international cooperation further effective for addressing Nepal’s Bhotekoshi flood disaster, protecting Himalayan regions, ensuring climate justice, and resilient development.

On the occasion, Minister Chaudhary underlined that Nepal has given high importance to cooperation with the United Nations and discussed Nepal’s present situation and possible cooperation and collaboration with the UN.

Discussion was also held on the issues, including damages caused in the agriculture and livestock sectors from floods, livelihood rehabilitation of flood-affected people, food security, climate justice, and strengthening the early warning system, according to Minister Chaudhary’s Secretariat.

The Minister argued that the UN’s support was necessary to strongly raise Nepal’s mountain agenda and climate justice in the upcoming United Nations General Assembly and COP-31.

Similarly, she expected additional support from UN agencies like the Food and Agriculture Organization for long-term cooperation and post-disaster revival to make the food security cluster more effective.

Similarly, UN Resident Coordinator Yahia expressed commitment to necessary coordination and cooperation from the UN in the restoration of the livelihoods of farmers affected by the Bhotekoshi flood, the early warning system, and in reducing climate-induced risks. RSS
