Repair of flood-damaged suspension bridges begins

Kathmandu: The government has officially forwarded a process to repair 20 suspension bridges that were damaged by the recent floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, out of 64 suspension bridges located from Mugling to Timure, 53 were damaged by the devastative flooding. “Government officials visited the impacted areas and determined that 20 of the 53 damaged bridges required repairing,” the office said.

An order was issued on September 2 to initiate the maintenance works. Progress is underway for the repair of suspension bridges connecting Mahesh Dobhan to Mastar; Malinga to Majhuwatar; Keurini to Gahate, and Pimaltar to Jagaram.

The government has already called for bids to rebuild the remaining 33 suspension bridges that were hugely damaged.
